Food and Cooking

When I first moved into my dorm, I was so excited! We have an apartment style setup, so we have a living room and kitchen, with a microwave, stove, oven, dishwasher, and fridge. It's as close to living in a real apartment as you can get. So of course I went crazy with the lists and Pinterest boards and found all sorts of amazing recipes that are easy, healthy, and delicious.

I have not cooked once.

Doesn't that seem like a waste? It's like all that space and utility sits there and the only thing I use it for is washing my dirty cups and storing my snackage food. Which I have a lot of, since that's all I do when I'm home. But in my defense, our amenities aren't quite in perfect condition. Our stove burners are rusty, and I mean rusty. I would probably end up burning down our room, not to mention the entire complex, if I even tried to boil some water. Our heating/cooling unit leaks, so when I stumble into the kitchen to make some instant coffee (one of the few things I've perfected these past three weeks), I splash right into a puddle of water. Our microwave has superpowers and heats my hot chocolate from mild to boiling in .5 seconds. So it's not really my fault that I haven't spent any time in the kitchen.

Some of the food I always have on hand: milk, cheese sticks, fruit, coffee creamer, instant coffee, sugar, crackers, bread, EasyMac (which saves me during late nights when the dining hall is closed and I'm starving), peanut butter, goldfish, cereal bars, popcorn, and a huge bag of Skittles. I also use my Brita filter daily and drink water like nothing else (because I'm broke and it's free).

And if I'm really hungry, there's this stand in the dining hall where you can make the perfect salad, complete with croutons and cranberries. Mmm!
